About us

The vision of Walking Coastal Sydney is to promote public access to, and enhance the appreciation and recreational enjoyment of Sydney’s coastline, harbour and estuaries for the people of Sydney and visitors to the city.

The initiative was advanced through a collaboration that began in 2006 between the Walking Volunteers and Sydney Coastal Councils Group (SCCG), who worked together with SCCG Member Councils to identify and map routes to produce a series of brochures and related information. The NSW Department of Planning has supported the initiative through its Sharing Sydney Harbour Access Program.

The release of the two Parramatta River Walk brochures in 2011 completed the Sydney Harbour & Coastal Walking Network. The Network was officially opened by the NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell - click here to watch a short video of the launch.

In August-September 2014, a group of walking enthusiasts undertook an ‘Inaugural Walk’ of the entire Network. The 315 km 30-day Walk was a great success, starting at Barrenjoey headland in the north and ending in the Royal National Park. For more information on the Walk, click here.
